High quality and detailing in every inch are time consuming. The reproduction of Thomas Gainsborough also needs time to dry in order to be completely ready for shipping, as this is crucial to not be damaged during transportation.
Based on the size, level of detail and complexity we need 8-9 weeks to complete the process.

In case the delivery date needs to be extended in time, or we are overloaded with requests, there will be an email sent to you sharing the new timelines of production and delivery.

TOPofART wants to remind you to keep patient, in order to get you the highest quality, being our mission to fulfill your expectations.

We not stretch and frame our oil paintings due to several reasons:
Painting reproduction is a high quality expensive product, which we cannot risk to damage by sending it being stretched.
Also, there are postal restrictions, regarding the size of the shipment.
Additionally, due to the dimensions of the stretched canvas, the shipment price may exceed the price of the product itself.

You can stretch and frame your painting in your local frame-shop.

Once the painting The Blue Boy is ready and dry, it will be shipped to your delivery address. The canvas will be rolled-up in a secure postal tube.

We offer free shipping as well as paid express transportation services.

After adding your artwork to the shopping cart, you will be able to check the delivery price using the Estimate Shipping and Tax tool.

Over 20 Years Experience
Only Museum Quality

The paintings we create are only of museum quality. Our academy graduated artists will never allow a compromise in the quality and detail of the ordered painting. TOPofART do not work, and will never allow ourselves to work with low quality studios from the Far East. We are based in Europe, and quality is our highest priority.

The figure - a poised young man attired in a glimmering blue satin suit - immediately arrests the viewer’s attention. Standing amid a diffuse landscape of umber and smoky gold, he presents an elegant contrast between the sharply outlined contours of his attire and the hazier, swirling background. His left hand anchors itself on his hip, subtly asserting confidence, while his right hand clutches a wide-brimmed hat crowned with a plume. The refined costume - a slashed doublet, breeches, and lace collar - recalls the aristocratic style championed by earlier Flemish portraiture, here reimagined with a distinctly British sensibility.

The color palette centers around an astonishingly vivid array of blues, achieved through an intricate layering of ultramarine, smalt, Prussian blue, and likely azurite. These variegated pigments reflect light in distinctive ways, emphasizing the sheen of the satin and revealing the painter’s fascination with the subtleties of tone. Deeper accents along the folds serve to delineate the figure’s form, while lighter applications near the collar and mid-torso heighten a sense of volume. This chromatic emphasis draws the eye across the costume, then out toward the evening sky, which is rendered in muted earthy hues that gently soften the overall effect and prevent any single color from overwhelming the composition.

Close examination of the brushwork reveals Gainsborough’s deft balance between precision and spontaneity. Recent technical studies confirm that he applied paint in complex layers, alternating broad, swift strokes with meticulous touches. Overpainting has concealed elements once part of this canvas - including the faint outline of a dog and an abandoned man’s head discovered through X-ray. These ghostly underlayers indicate that Gainsborough reused his materials and adjusted his initial composition, suggesting a fluid creative process. Removal of older, discolored varnish also highlights the subtle transitions of paint, bringing forward Gainsborough’s remarkable control of texture and light.

The composition, though simple at first glance, cleverly orchestrates focus upon the central figure. The boy’s stance, with one leg extended and a slight tilt of his head, underscores the portrait’s formality. The rocky slope at his feet and the distant patch of evening sky provide a compositional counterbalance - guiding the gaze in a gentle curve from bottom left to upper right. When exhibited in 1770, this painting was evidently conceived as a bravura statement: Gainsborough’s nod to Van Dyck’s precedent set him in conversation with the great portraitists of the past, while showcasing his own mastery of color, brushwork, and stylistic flair.
