Dutch Baroque Painter

Govert Flinck was a Dutch painter, who lived and worked in the Dutch Golden Age. He was a student of Rembrandt van Rijn and became one of his most important followers. Flinck was known for his portraits, landscapes, and historical and biblical scenes, painted in a dramatic, realist style. He was also a successful art dealer and collected works by contemporary artists.
Although Flinck lived and worked in the Dutch Golden Age, his work was largely overshadowed by that of Rembrandt, and he was relatively unknown until the 20th century, when his work was rediscovered and appreciated for its own merits.
