Jan Davidsz de Heem (1606-1684) was a Dutch still-life painter who was renowned for his highly detailed and realistic depictions of floral and fruit arrangements. He was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and began his artistic training in his father's studio, where he learned the techniques of oil painting.

De Heem later moved to Leiden, where he studied with the still-life painter David Bailly. In 1626, he moved to Antwerp, Belgium, where he worked with the leading still-life painter of the time, Jan Brueghel the Elder.

De Heem returned to Utrecht in 1631 and quickly established himself as one of the most sought-after painters of his time. His paintings were prized for their exquisite detail and naturalistic rendering of objects, as well as their ability to capture the beauty of light and shadow.

In 1635, De Heem converted to Catholicism and moved to Antwerp, where he remained for the rest of his life. He continued to produce still-life paintings, which were increasingly influenced by the Baroque style of painting that was popular at the time.

De Heem's paintings often featured elaborate arrangements of flowers, fruits, and other objects, and his use of light and shadow was particularly masterful. He was also known for his skill in painting the texture and surface of objects, such as the shiny skin of grapes or the delicate petals of a flower.

De Heem was a prolific painter, and his works can be found in many major museums and private collections around the world. He died in Antwerp in 1684 at the age of 78.
